HARBOUR ISLAND FORCE MAIN REPLACEMENT DESIGN-BUILD

78” diameter steel casing microtunnel

As part of a new 13,000 lft City of Tampa’s force main design-build replacement project, a 3,200 lft segment, consisting of a 78” diameter steel casing microtunnel was selected to be installed under the Ybor Turning Basin to reduce the length of the systems’ route and mitigate impacts to the local businesses and residents.

This microtunnel consists of a 65’ deep x 40’ diameter secant pile launch shaft; a 65’ deep x 25’ diameter secant pile retrieval shaft and the tunnel itself which runs between the two some 60’ under the Basin.

Within the casing a 54” force main will be installed, making connections on the west at Cotanchobee Park and  portside on the east.  This segments is an integral part of the replacement force main system originating at the Krause Pump Station, immediately west of the Tampa Convention Center and terminating at the  Howard F Curren Advanced Wastewater Plant within Port Tampa Bay.

The installation and turnover of this segments is scheduled for April 2023, with final project completion in the 4th quarter of 2023.
