Foundation Student Wins Times Scholarship
The Kimmins Terrier Foundation is proud and honored to announce that its scholarship student graduating from Berkeley Preparatory School, Shakira Carter, has been selected as 1 of 4 recipients of the St. Petersburg Times Collegiate Scholarships entitling her to $60,000 over the next 4 years at the college of her choice. The scholarship targets high school seniors with academic promise who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives and have proven themselves to be outstanding, well-rounded individuals.
From her very first days at Berkely, Shakira stood out as an enthusiastic classmate, student, athlete, and dramatic artist. She is known throughout the campus as a self described "people person" who has genuinely taken advantage of all the school had to offer. One of the accomplishments she is most proud of during her years at Berkely is the establishment of Diversity Awareness Day, an initiative that developed into a day-long conference where the students were offered guest lecture and workshops designed to bring about dialog and raise awareness on topics of social behavior. With such an outstanding portfolio of achievements it came as no suprise that Shakira was accepted at every college she applied to. She has given a commitment to her first choice, Northwestern University, and plans to pursue a double major in Theatre and Psychology.
We wish her the best of luck and continued success in her academic career.
